Hidd Rehabitation Center for Special Need was founded by UCO Elderly Care Association in 2001 on land belonging to the Ministry of Labour and Social Development.

Objectives:

  1. To diagnose the cases of the persons with disabilities to make known their physical and sensory aptitudes and abilities to think up care programs and educational and vocational guidance to develop these capabilities;
  2. To train the persons with disabilities to get their hands on basic academic skills through an educational program that adapts to the different manifestations of disability;
  3. To develop health awareness and acquiring healthy habits out of an integrated program for health upbringing and the prevention of diseases and accidents;
  4. To develop and encourage the tendencies and skills of the persons with disabilities, which would inevitably help them to enrich their lives and occupy their spare time by means of programs of recreational, entertaining and social activities;
  5. To get hold of social adjustment, autonomy and to develop a sense of self-worth and psychological compatibility by means of an integrated program for counseling, guidance and physiological health.
  6. To suggest and conduct studies, surveys and researches related to the persons with disabilities to sketch out future services for them;
  7. To undertake the task of establishing and encouraging cooperative and productive societies for the persons with disabilities and to hold exhibitions and seminars highlighting their activities and vocational participation;

Programs and Services:

 

Academic Qualification Unit:

 

The Academic Rehabilitation Unit is concerned with the rehabilitation and training of children with mild and moderate intellectual disability according to their special programs that would inevitably help them integrate and socialize.


Vocational Qualification Unit:

  • The Vocational Rehabilitation Unit is concerned with carrying out vocational rehabilitation programs aimed at achieving the economic sufficiency of the persons with disabilities by means of working, undertaking a profession while proceeding doing it.
  • It is further concerned with preparing vocational categorized programs suitable for all disability groups integrated in the Center while analyzing the jobs and professions in demand in the Labour market hand in hand with making these jobs and professions in full conformity with them.

Health Care and Treatment Program:

 

  • To follow up the medical and periodic diagnoses of applicants and to open a special file for each of them;
  • To take care of applicants’ health affairs, to take care of their hygiene and to follow up on their medical needs;
  • To work on immunizing applicants and those working with them;
  • To provide prosthetic devices for applicants who need them;
  • To conduct first aid for applicants at the Center or transporting them to the hospital when necessary;
  • To conduct regular examination on applicants;


Psychological Care Programs:

 

  1. To conduct psychological tests for applicants to determine their abilities and potentials;
  2. To provide individual treatment education in full conformity with the traits of each case, "Behavior Adjustment";
  3. To provide group treatment education;


Social Welfare Program:

  • To examine the applicants’ social status and to record all the ups and downs in contact with their status;
  • To provide financial and in-kind assistance to needy cases;
  • To organize field visits to public and private institutions;
  • To work on maintaining the applicants’ relationship with their families and the outside community by means of mutual visits and joint programs;
  • To provide means of transportation to transport applicants from home to the Center and vice versa;


Cultural, Sports and Entertainment Programs:

 

  • To organize entertainment and educational trips for applicants;
  • To provide the opportunity for applicants to participate in the scout teams at the Center and to participate in the scout camps organized by the various institutions;
  • To provide applicants with the opportunity to read newspapers, magazines, and educational television programs, and to play educational and entertaining games;
  • To organize entertainment parties on the occasions celebrated by the Kingdom of Bahrain;
  • To organize exhibitions to introduce applicants' products;
  • To provide applicants with the opportunity to participate in all internal and external social activities;
  • To participate in all sports activities for persons with disabilities at the local and international levels;
  • To organize physical education classes within the daily program and to participate in local and international championships.


Training Programs for the Center's Employees:

  1. To organize training courses in various fields of special education and vocational rehabilitation at the local and regional levels;
  2. To organize lectures and refresher training courses during the academic year;
  3. To participate in training courses organized by local universities and the centers of persons with similar disabilities;
  4. To exchange exploratory visits among centers for persons with disabilities to benefit from their experiences;
  5. To offer scholarships for employees to obtain specialized certificates in the fields of special education and vocational training;
  6. To participate in local and international conferences;


Admission Requirements:


•    He must be a Bahraini national or born to a Bahraini mother having a permanent resident status.
•    He must be free from contagious and communicable diseases.
•    He must have the minimum ability to learn without being inflicted with mental or behavioral disorder.
•    He must have a mild or moderate intellectual disability on average range between (5-20) years.
•    His family has the desire to benefit from the Center’s programs and services.
•    He must have the ability to take care of his personal self.

Admission Procedures:

  • To submit an official application to join the Center attached to it a copy of the case’s CPR and medical reports;
  • To conduct a social research on the case and his family;
  • To conduct the various evauations necessary for the case (psychological - academic - vocational - medical);
  • To open a case file;
  • To take the guardian’s approval of the Center’s service system and to cooperate with the Center by means of attending in person to follow up the case whenever needed;
  • To subject the case to a trial period for a period not exceeding six months to determine the possibility of the case being part of the Center and being suitable for the applied programs;
  • To conduct a comprehensive medical examination;


End of the Relationship:

 

  • When the applicant dies;
  • When the applicant completes the qualifying programs specified for him;
  • When the guardian requests to terminate the case services received from the Center;
  • When the applicant does not respond to the programs applied at the Center after the scheduled trial period ends;
  • When conditions in the Center become inadequate to satisfy the needs and development of the applicant;
  • When the applicant becomes absent for seven consecutive days or for two weeks on a sporadic basis without valid reasons;
  • When his condition turns out to be dangerous for himself and other applicants despite the efforts made to adjust his behavior;
  • When the applicant / case fails to comply with the regulations, procedures and instructions in force at the Center;
  • When one or more of the conditions for admission are not fulfilled;


Case Custodial Procedures:

 

  1. To record detailed information about the case in the behavior adjustment forms;
  2. To prepare reports on the case by the center's work team;
  3. To discuss the issue of the case with the psychiatrist;
  4. To summon the parents to discuss the case encountered problem;
  5. To dispatch notices to the guardian to urge the case to attend in event of his absence;
  6.
